无损检测与评价（Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation）：研究在不损害材料或工件的使用性和使用可靠性的前提下，如何进行缺陷检测，几何特性测量，化学成分、组织结构和力学性能评定，进而对材料或工件对特定应用的适应性进行评价。

常规的无损检测分为五大类：超声检测（UT：Ultrasonic Testing）、射线检测（RT：Radiographic Testing）、涡流检测（ET：Eddy Current Testing）、渗透检测（PT：Penetrate Testing）、磁粉检测（MT：Magnetic Particle Testing）。此外红外检测（IR：Infrared）、声发射检测（AE：Acoustic   Testing）、激光全息检测（HNT：Holographic Nondestructive Testing）应用的也比较广泛。
